The 10/8/2020 DOL Unemployment Insurance Weekly Claims indicates continued improvement in the insured employment situation even though the initial claims remain stubbornly high.

The non-seasonal adjusted initial claims at 885,885 are up by 76,670 when compared to previous week upward revised level. However, the non-seasonal adjusted continuous insured unemployment at 9,631,588 have again decreased significantly by 1,188,202 (about 11% of the insured unemployed) over the last week’s reported figures. This decrease is not reflected in the number of total persons claiming some form of UI benefit which at a level of 25,290,32 only a decrease of 215,270 (1% of the number some form of claiming UI benefits) from the previous week’s level.
